This Month

Our homes are just as subject to trends and fashions as our wardrobes. The difference is that some ‘must-have’ ideas stick around much longer than a season. Open-plan kitchens, for example, show no sign of losing popularity and this is reflected in the real-home projects we feature. This month, be inspired by three more open-plan spaces, from a city pad in Hoxton to family-friendly homes in Hertfordshire and North London. There’s also a beautiful bathroom created in the eaves of a former chapel thrown in for good measure.
Speaking of bathrooms, we tackle the weighty topic of how to go about starting out on a bathroom project. Where do you begin? We attempt to answer this question and more in this month’s issue. And if you always welcome in a horde of friends and family over the festive season, now’s the time to plan ahead and get your cloakroom ready to wow them.
It may not have occurred to you, but if you are craving a kitchen space that is open to your living or dining area, you need to think about extraction. Ducting and motors aren’t the glamorous end of kitchen design, but when soft furnishings don’t smell of cooking odours and your conversation isn’t drowned out by the noise of your extractor hood, you’ll be glad you did a little forward planning. Plus, now they’re on show to your guests, today’s extractor hood designs are more stylish than ever before.

The October issue is out now.
